Basic Instincts | Berlin Fashion Week 2011

13. July 2011

Clothes by five designers whose work defines contemporary Dutch fashion. Objects, photographs and scale models created by product designers, photographers and architects were featured in the exhibition Basic Instincts: Dutch Fashion in Context, hosted at the Eusebiuskerk by Premsela, the Museum voor Moderne Kunst Arnhem and the Villa Elisabeth Berlin during the Fashionweek Berlin 2011.

Iris van Herpen, Oda Pausma, Monique van Heist, Klavers van Engelen and Anne de Grijff designed garments that are sometimes sculptural but often surprisingly wearable. All of them had a strikingly individual style and a distinctive take on fashion. Likewise, the product designers, photographers and architects in the show had more in common than they might appear to: each works out of a strong personal vision that guides him or her through the creative process. Basic Instincts revealed the Netherlands' unique fashion and design culture in six varied exhibition landscapes.

Each landscape centred on a single fashion designer and theme.
